Battle Bars Review
Today we’re reviewing Battle Bars, a protein snack bar from a US veteran-owned company. According to their website:
Battle Bars are a premium line of protein-based energy bars, designed to function as a "snack replacement". Each bar is made in an SQF certified facility, led by a 20+ year bariatric doctor. Battle Bars consist of a whey/rice crisp + marshmallow base, and coated with a variety of flavors.
Additionally, each bar is non-GMO, gluten-free*, antioxidant & collagen infused, and designed from the ground up to be a better-for-you alternative.
Battle Bars are designed from the ground up to provide a better-tasting, better-for-you option for those who are looking to fuel their way through the day, but without the fake sugars or gritty aftertaste.
I picked up all the flavors available (as of the end of April 2022) from our local nutrition partner Supplement Warehouse in Bolingbrook, IL. I spread them out through the week, recording my impressions of each along the way. Overall it was a tasty and fun experiment. Here are my findings.
Red. Natural dried strawberry flavor, Mild and creamy, Reminiscent of a rice crispy treat. But noticeably more dense. Not too sweet, grainy texture towards the finish.
PR-T Birthday cake. Lightly sweet yellow cake flavor. The sprinkles are a nice visual touch. Bit waxy of a bite. Same grainy finish.
Blue Falcon. Mild, creamy natural blueberry flavor. Not as waxy feeling. Like the others, not too sweet, grainy finish.
FBR. Reasonably convincing smores flavor. Pleasant chocolate flavor that's not as waxy compared to some of the other flavors, and enough of a hint of graham cracker flavor to round out the chew of the protein krispies. Sweet enough where I'm not craving any more from the experience, like more chocolate or actual marshmallows or anything.
K Bar. Has more of a peanut candy taste than a peanut butter one. Mildly sweet, not as waxy, and that same grainy finish.
FUBAR. Cookies and cream. Actually pretty delightful. Lightly sweet and creamy, even the grainy finish is less than the other flavors. Maybe because of the chocolate cookie type pieces throughout?
Despite what the company says, overall there was still a bit of a grainy texture on the finish of each bar I tried. I suppose some level of this is inescapable when crafting healthier alternatives to candy bars. Regardless, Battle Bars proved themselves to be a tasty, satisfying healthy snack product. In my opinion, they’re a great option for people looking for healthy alternatives. The outer coatings are a bit temperature sensitive, so consider how you’re storing yours, and perhaps don’t leave them in your pocket for a long hike.
